The low hydrothermal stability of the mesoporous silica materials appears to be due to the hydrolysis of the bare Si-O-Si bonds in the presence of adsorbed water. In this work, hydrothermal stability of the MCM-41 materials has been investigated in X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) and N2 adsorption isotherm after hydrothermal treatments. Silane treatments of MCM-41 are carried out with γ-glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane (GPS), γ-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane (MPS), and γ-mercapto propyl trimethoxy silane (MCPS). The results indicate that the hydrothermal stability of mesoporous materials is remarkly improved by silane modification. It seems that silane modifier reacts with hydroxyl group of MCM-41, resulting in decreasing the hydrophilicity. |
