Preparation of PP/POSS nanocomposites by a high energy irradiation |

In this work, monofunctional methacrylisobutyl-POSS (MMIB-POSS) and PP were mixed and irradiated with various doses. Radiation-induced grafting of MMIB-POSS onto PP was confirmed by an FT-IR spectroscopy. Compared to neat PP, the mechanical properties of the non-irradiated nanocomposites increased slightly with an increasing content of the POSS and absorption dose. The decomposition temperatures of the non-irradiated nanocomposites decreased slightly with an increasing content of the POSS. The thermal properties of the PP/POSS nanocomposites seem to decrease due to a degradation of PP caused by radiation. |
