Preparation of a novel carboxylic functional polystyrene/gold core-shell structure by the impregnation of gold nanoparticles |

A novel carboxylic functional-polystyrene (~COOH-PS)/Au core-shell structure was prepared by the impregnation of Au nanoparticles into the cores. The PS beads (1-3㎛) was synthesized by the dispersion polymerization. On the PS beads was polymerized styrene (St)–methacrylic acid (MAA)–divinylbenzene (DVB) mixture in aqueous solution using dibutylphthalate (DBP) for an swelling organic agent: it was named ~COOH-PS cores (4-6㎛). The properties of the cores were characterized by SEM and FT-IR. On ~COOH-PS cores were formed gold nanoparticles by the aqueous gold nanoparticle solution synthesized by a transfer method. These gold nanoparticles were impregnated into the cores for 4 days and then coalesced by heating at 120°C for a week and served as gold seeds. The gold seeds were grown on the ~COOH-PS cores by employing the solution of both Au(OH)3 and NH2OH solution. The characteristics of ~COOH-PS/Au core-shells were investigated by SEM, XDAS and XPS. |
