Surfactant-Assisted Dispersion of Carbon and Inorganic Nanotubes |

Carbon nanotubes and inorganic nanotubes such as halloysite nanotubes are interesting nanomaterials. However, the poor dispersability of these materials in aqueous medium confines drastically their applications in general and biomedical application in particular. In this study, we have established a facile method to disperse a high concentration of single-walled carbon and halloysite nanotubes in aqueous solution by using different types of surfactants. Further, the effect of the concentration of the different surfactants on the dispersion of the nanotubes has been investigated and optimized. Interestingly, the results show that at a minimum concentration the ability of the neutral surfactant to suspend the nanotubes was found to be better than that of the cationic surfactant. |
