A programmed tetrathiafulvalene molecule (symTTF11) was newly designed and synthesized by attaching four flexible alkyl chains at the periphery of board-shaped molecule. Based on the thermal, microscopic and scattering experiments and analyses, phase structures of columnar crystalline phase and a columnar smectic LC phase were indentified. Since the assembled symTTF11 columns were well organized in the layer structures over a macroscopic domain in the columnar smectic LC phase, symTTF11 showed a good charge carrier mobility, which was about two-order of magnitude faster than that in the columnar crystalline phase. |
