제목 CO toxicity characteristics of wood specimens coated with boron compounds
초록 This study was performed to test the characteristics on generating the  toxic gas  of building interior materials,  especially  focusing on CO, which are the leading cause of fire deaths. The quantity of the CO generated was measured by 50 kW/m2 external heat flux and it was compared to the 50 ppm permissible exposure limit of OSHA.  Boric acid and ammonium pentaborate were used in combination as flame retardants. The maximum yield of COmean (kg/kg) was 0.053 to 0.063 kg/kg and was lower than 0.067 kg/kg from uncoated specimen. The maximum CO prodution rate was 0.00188 to 0.00233 g/s. Boric acid showed the highest rate and the concentration of 30 wt% showed the lowest rate. The CO toxicity of the coated specimens was 76.3 to 92.42 ppm, which was smaller than that of uncoated wood, 111.22 ppm. This was observed to increase by 1.5 to 1.9 times compared with the permissible exposure limit of OSHA.
