Fine control of a photonic band gap has a great deal of interest because of its wide range of applications, especially in photoelectronics. While the complete photonic band gap can be attained through 3 dimensionally and periodically ordered materials with a refractive index contrast greater than 2.85, a photonic stop band can be simply attained using self-assembly chemistry methodologies for creating colloidal crystals. Here, we would like to report a new simple and cost effective method for the fine control of the photonic stop band using both the nature of conducting polymers and the colloidal crystals. Two processes for preparing opals and inverse opals using conducting polymers will be described with the results of the fine tuning of the photonic stop band. |
