Rechargeable Mg batteries are being received attention owing to bivalency of Mg and their specific volumetric capacity (3833mAhcm-3), higher than Li metal (2046mAhcm-3). Mg is safe, stable in air, benign, cheap, and abundant. Nevertheless host materials for Mg guest ion are scarcely reported. Here, we studied cubic TiS2 as host material for rechargeable Mg ion batteries. Our cell was tested with electrolyte of Mg(ClO4)2 in acetonitrile. The cell showed a reversible intercalation reaction of Mg ions. The structural changes during reduction and oxidation were analyzed using the powder XRD. This study will be a great help to the discovery other host materials for rechargeable Mg batteries. |
