제목 Poly(dimethyl siloxane) Membrane for High Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells
초록 Sulfonic acid-based membrane gives the relatively high conductivity only in the presence of water, this is the main obstacle to develop high temperature PEMFC. Phosphoric acid presents the relatively high proton conductivity without water because of its self dissociation natures. We synthesized the thermostable material that has phosphorous groups based on Poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS). PDMS has been widely used in various applications due to thermal and chemical stability and low price. PDMS is intrinsically hydrophobic but it can be modified to be amphiphilic by substituting end groups with hydrophilic phosphorous groups. Phase separation resulted in forming the proton conducting channels. The membranes were thermally stable up to 300 ℃ and maintained the constant proton conductivity above 130 ℃ under dry conditions. It may be used as high temperature proton conducting membrane at low humid conditions due to self dissociation natures of phosphorous groups at these conditions.
