제목 Characteristics of Nanocomposite Membrane Using ZrSPP for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells
초록 The methanol crossover is the major obstacle to DMFC commercialization because of depolarization losses at the cathode and conversion loss due to fuel loss. The Nafion® was suffering from permeation of liquid methanol fuel. So the membranes were fabricated from the nanocomposite of Nafion® containing zirconium sulphophenyl phosphate (ZrSPP) as a solid proton conductor to reduce methanol crossover. The methanol permeability of the modified membranes were found to be at least 50% lower than Nafion® due to the longer diffusion path. The proton conductivity (σ) was determined by AC impedance spectroscopy (IM6, Zahner). X-ray diffraction (Rigaku Rad-C4037A1) was carried out to observe exfoliated state of composite membrane. The unit cell (5cm2) performance was tested using methanol as fuel and high purity O2.
