Nowadays, cation exchange membranes(CEMs) such as Nafion are mostly used in redox flow batteries, because of their high chemical stability and ion conductivity. However the CEM has a critical problem to pass vanadium ions which causes decline of battery capacity. To resolve the passage of vanadium ions, anion transport membrane using quaternized poly(1-vinyl imidazole)(QPVIm) and poly(4-vinyl pyridine)(QPVPy) was tried to be used instead of CEM. Polymers were quaternized by 3-bromo-1-propene(allyl bromide) and 1-bromo butane. Then, we prepared membrane with the blend of quaternized polymer and PVdF-HFP by electrospinning method. Ion exchange capacity and ionic conductivity were analysed through back titration and impedance analyser, respectively. It is found that the quantity of quaternary salt is the most dominant factor affecting membrane performance. |
