Colloidosomes are microcapsules, so called Pickering emulsions which were stabilized with nanoparticles surrounding the interface of two immiscible phases. So far, various colloidosomes have been produced with conventional solid nanoparticles however, it is yet to be reported to use synthetic melanin nanospheres as building blocks. Here, we demonstrate a method to fabricate synthetic melanin colloidosomes via a microfluidic device. Hydrodynamically focused microchannels were prepared to generate oil-in-water Pickering emulsions. Synthetic melanin nanospheres dispersed in a water phase adsorbed on the surface of oil droplets and formed microshells, which were treated with near infrared light for slightly annealed colloidosomes. Moreover, the release property of synthetic melanin colloidosomes was characterized to show potential applications in biomedicines. |
