Adsorption study, which is to develop a purification process for CO2 under high pressure, has been conducted using activated carbon by assuming ethanol (EtOH) as the major impurity. The adsorption isotherms were determined through static adsorption experiments in the range of 303.15-323.15 K and 15-65 bar for CO2, and up to one half the vapor pressure for EtOH, respectively. The Langmuir-Freundlich isotherm and Henry’s law have been found to accurately correlate the experimental data for CO2 and EtOH, respectively. For design of adsorption column, modeling and simulation study has been carried out. For this, an ordinary differential equation (ODE) model of the adsorption column was derived using the cubic spline collocation method (CSCM) applied to the original partial differential equation (PDE) model. |
