The polymers containing pyridine moiety such as poly(2-vinylpyridine) are very attractive because of lone pair electrons in the nitrogen atom of pyridine. Therefore, they can be used in the various applications such as nanoparticles, quaternizations, etc. We already reported many living anionic polymerization of 2-vinylpridine, 2-(4-vinylphenyl)pyridine, and their block copolymers with various monomers. Hereby, to study the living anionic polymerization and morphologies, and to compare its reactivity with 2VP and VPPy, the novel monomer, 2-(4’-vinylbiphenyl-4-yl)pyridine was synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction and polymerized anionically with potassium diphenylmethane to prevent the side reactions such as crosslinking. The observed molecular weight (MW) was in the good agreement with calculated MW. From the block copolymerization of VBPPy, the living nature and reactivity were investigated and microphase separation by TEM was studied. |
