Layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly has been widely used as a versatile method for fabricating multilayer thin films with controlled structure and composition. Due to its facile, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly nature, LbL assembled multilayer thin films find their applications ranging from materials to biology. In this presentation, I will illustrate the hierarchical assembly of multilayered thin films as a universal protocol to form hybrid nanostructures on the surface. In particular, polymeric multilayers are used for the potential biomedical applications such as therapeutic surface coatings and transdermal vaccination patches. Moreover, surface assembled carbon nanotubes networks are presented for potential electrochemical electrode, supercapacitor, and biosensor. |
