Damage Sensing and Inherent Property of CNT-Polypropylene Nanocomposites by Electro-Micromechanical Techniques |

CNT-polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites were fabricated by solvent dispersion method, and were formed using twin screw extruder. Sensing effects were evaluated to predict the internal damage of CNT-PP nanocomposites using electrical resistance measurement. Mechanical and interfacial properties of CNT-PP composites were investigated and compared with neat PP. The mechanical properties of PP matrix were improved after adding CNT into PP matrix, because of the reinforcing effect of CNT fillers. In order to predict the internal damage of CNT-PP nanocomposite, the change in electrical resistance of the composites was measured under cyclic loading and bending tests. CNT fillers exhibited good sensing under electrical resistance measurements. Acknowledgements: This work was supported from Future Project by Hyundai Motor Company, 2011.
