Recently, the conjugated polymers show the potentials for numerous applications such as electric, electrooptic and optic systems. One of the advantages of organic conjugated polymers over other inorganic materials is the facility of tunning of electric and optical properties by molecular design. Previously we reported new fully conjugated fluorene-oxadiazole copolymers which show promising properties as blue luminescent materials. In this presentation, we report new fluorene-oxadiazole copolymers with an ether or hexafluoropropyl group as a conjugation confinement moiety. Relative to the fully conjugated polymers, these polymers display blue-shifted photoluminescence (PL) of UV-blue emission in solutions (380 nm and 396 nm) and blue emission in films (400 nm and 422 nm) due to the shortened conjugation length. The hexafluoropropyl-containing polymer show better solubility than one having the ether-linkage due to chain flexibility. More detailed synthetic description and characterization will be presented.
