제목 Preparation and Characterization of Functionalized Silicas Coated on Polymer Beads
초록 Functionalized silica-coated polystyrene(PS) and poly (methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) beads have been prepared using a sol-gel method. The PS and PMMA beads of 5~6 μm size were synthesized by soap-free emulsion polymerization. In a typical synthesis, tetraorthosilicate(TEOS) and organosilane were then added to the bead suspensions in water/ethanol co-solvent. The ethoxy groups are hydrolyzed and condensated on the polymer bead surface resulting in silica-coated polymer core-shell beads. The core-shell structures were observed using transmission electron microscope and scanning electron microscope. Thermogravimetric analysis and FT-IR were also carried out to characterize the functional groups on the silica. Moreover, we will prepare other core-shell type beads containing dyes to use them as acting materials in an e-paper application.
