The severe nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station in 2011 released a huge amount of radioactive cesium into natural environments. Although the commercial Cs adsorbents including potassium copper hexacyanoferrate (KCuHCF), have effective sorption capacity of Cs, they lack the efficiency required for large-scale remediation due to difficult collection after use. To address this problem, the KCuHCF was immobilized in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) beads for the magnetic removal of cesium. The nanostructured KCuHCF were synthesized by precipitation reaction in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol. after mixing with iron salts, the mixture were dropwise added into NH4OH solution. The sorption of cesium ions onto these synthesized beads was fully studied. And the results of sorption study show that our beads effectively removed the Cs even in the presence of competing cations. |
