Anion exchange membrane fuel cell [AEMFC] is being actively researched recently because non-platinum catalyst can be used. However, anion has low mobility due to its bulky size compared to proton, which results in lower conductivity of AEM. Therefore, it is important to find ways to increase ion conductivity. Our approach is based on nanocomposites in order to increase conductivity and mechanical properties. Nano-scale particles must be used and their dispersion is very important to avoid blocking problem of nanochannels. We prepared nanocomposite membranes based on FAA-3 (FuMA-Tech) by adding POSS nanoparticles (1~2 nm). It can provide additional anion source inside nanochannels because of functionalized quaternary ammonium groups. Anion conductivity increased up to 17% with the addition of nanoparticles. After the optimum concentration, conductivity decreased gradually due to aggregation of nanoparticles. We will explain the effect of nanoparticles on conductivities. |
