Many studies are being conducted to reduce the efficiency loss caused by charge recombination at the surface of photoanode, one of the disadvantages of quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSCs). In this paper, we conducted a study to reduce the recombination loss at the surface of photoanode in QDSC by incorporating additives in the electrolytes. Heavy-metal-free QDSCs based on Cu-In-Se QDs were fabricated and the poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) was incorporated in the electrolyte to protect surface defects at the photoanode, leading to the reduction in the charge recombination. A study was conducted to find the optimal concentration of PVP in the polysulfide electrolytes. Various electrochemical analysis such as J-V curve, IPCE, impedance analysis were performed to investigate the effects of PVP additives on the photovoltaic performances of QDSCs. The addition of PVP to the electrolyte resulted in an increase of conversion efficiency from 5.8% to 6.9%. |
