Direct method for nanoporous TiO2 monolayer prepared from polymeric nanoparticle monolayer as template |

Nanoporous TiO2 monolayer can be directly prepared by using polymeric nanoparticle monolayer as template. The nano-sized polymeric nanoparticles were prepared by quaternization of amphiphilic diblock copolymer, polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PS-P2VP), which was synthesized by living anionic polymerization and dispersion of the nanoparticles into a toluene. The size of the polymer particles could be controlled by the molecular weight of the PS-P2VP in nano-scale (40-60 nm). Interestingly, the shape of the particles was strongly depended on the intermolecular interaction between particles and solvent. The monolayer of the polymeric nanoparticles was prepared at a water/toluene interface and the nanoporous TiO2 monolayer was prepared by sol-gel reaction of Ti(isopropoxide)4, which was immersed into the gap between nanoparticles as template. Managing the size of the polymeric nanoparticles could control the pore size of TiO2 monolayer. The polymeric nanoparticle monolayer and nanoporous TiO2 monolayer were characterized by SEM and TEM.
