Controlling Orientation and Order in Triblock Copolymer Thin Films |

The self-assembly of block copolymers has attracted much attention due to spontaneous formation of various nanostructures with tunable size that can have potential applications in data storage systems, microelectronic systems, membrane, etc. Depending on the volume fraction of components, even the simplest diblock copolymer can produce nanostructures ranging from spheres through cylinders and gyroids to lamellae. Moreover, triblock copolymers have much richer and more complicated structures than simple diblock copolymer due to increased system parameters. Here the morphology and properties of ABC-type triblock copolymers in thin films were investigated. Solvent-annealing process under controlled humidity was utilized to induce ordering of thin films of triblock copolymers. The nanostructures were found to strongly depend on the annealing conditions as well as solvents used during solvent annealing. Selective functionalization along the nanostructure was also attempted in this work. |
