In this paper, we demonstrate regularly micro-textured glass surfaces ensuring the superhydrophobic properties in the Cassie regime. The proposed surface structures were fabricated simply by filling the glass material into a micromachined silicon mold with periodic micro-cavities based on a thermal-reflow technique of glass. Therefore, the glass replica decorated with periodically-arrayed micro-pillar structures was demonstrated successfully. The surface wetting properties of the micro-textured glass surfaces were evaluated by measuring the apparent contact angle and contact angle hysteresis. In addition, the surface wettability was estimated theoretically based on the Wenzel and Cassie theories, and compared with the experimental ones. Through the experimental and theoretical observations, it was clearly confirmed that the proposed micro-textured glass surfaces showed superhydrophobic behaviors in the Cassie wetting mode. |
