A vitamin C is an important bio-active material in the cosmetic applications and it has versatile functions such as, prohibition of melanin formation, elimination of free radicals, and synthesis of collagen. The vitamin C, itself, has been well known as a very unstable material against light, heat, and oxygen, however. In this study, (W/O/W) multi-emulsions were prepared by a step-wise emulsification method for the improvement of stability of the vitamin C. In the preparation of W/O emulsion, an aqueous solution of ascorbic acid-2-glucoside (AA2G) was sonicated to form a nano-size emulsion in a mineral oil containing nonionic surfactants and PCL-PEG alternative copolymer. The former emulsion was dispersed in the aqueous solution of Pluronic F127. Dispersion stability and morphology of the W/O/W emulsions were observed using DLS, turbidity meter, and fluorescence microscopy (with FITC). Release behavior was measured using a UV-spectroscopy. |
