제목 | The Effect of Electric Field on the Interface of a Reactive Blend |
초록 | Electric fields were used to enhance thermal fluctuations at the interface between two thin liquid films or liquid/air films. Electrically induced instablilities can be used to control the size scale of morphologies. Here, we applied this technique to reactive blend systems and studied the effect of electric field on the interface of two immiscible polymer thin films. We used blend systems consisting of an amine terminate polystyrene[PS-NH2] and a maleic anhydride functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate) [PMMA-MA], which were synthesized by an anionic polymerization. Each polymer was spin coated from solution onto silicon wafer. The wafer was one of the electrodes (lower electrode). The upper electrode was Indium-thin-oxide (ITO)-coated glass, which was mounted on top of the reactive polymer thin films. This geometry using ITO-coated glass allowed us, via optical microscopy (OM), a direct observation of the temporal evolution of the reactive polymer thin films in the electric field. The interfacial morphology during reaction was investigated by using atomic force microscope (AFM). |
