The direct synthesis of primary amides from primary amines can be realized by a highly dispersed Ruthenium hydroxide on Alumina in molecular oxygen and in water. The direct selective oxygenation of both activated and inactivated amines can be achieved with high yields to render corresponding amides. Furthermore, separation of the catalyst and product is easy and simple, the supported ruthenium catalyst is recyclable, and air and water is just required as an oxidant and as a solvent, respectively. The Mechanism studies propose the direct oxygenation of primary amines to primary amides via the double aerobic oxidative dehydrogenation followed by the hydration of nitriles. |
