Polydiacetylene supramolecules are interesting materials in view of application to chemical and biological sensors. Recently, we reported new label-free sensor systems based on immobilized polydiacetylene vesicles possessed the color-changing property as well as the fluorescence emission (JACS 2005, 127, 17580; Accounts of Chemical Research 2008, 41, 805). In this study, we have developed starburst polydiacetylenes were a micro-sized spherical particle had high surface area. Starburst polydiacetylenes were maintained self-emmiting fluorescent characteristic of polydiacetylene supramolecules. The materials were better than existing polydiacetylene supramolecules on thermal stability and fluorescence emission property. Porous starburst polydiacetylens were able to discriminate liquid aldehydes according to carbon chain length. Using three dimensional architectures of starburst polydiacetylene are expected to rapid and highly sensitive detection for toxic chemicals. |
