Carbon dioxide reduction technologies using photosynthetic microorganism were suggested to overcome environmental destruction caused by CO2 in flue gases from power plant and other industries. However, there are many toxic constituents in flue gas including NOx and SOx. Continuous and excessive supply of these noxious gases to cells will leads to inhibition of microalgal growth along with apartial cell death. In this research, the effects of SOx and NOx on the pH and microalgal growth under photoautotrophic culture of microalgae, Haematococcus pluvialis were studied. The results showed that H.pluvialis still can grow in normal vegetative growth with 25ppm of NOx and SOx and is less sensitive to SOx and NOx than other microalgae species. Thus, H. pluvialis is useful for the CO2 sequestration of the flue gases including NOx and SOx. |
