Investigation of PAN based carbon fiber reinforced by nanocellulose |

Nanocellulose whiskers have attracted a great deal of interest as a new excellent insulating material because of their remarkable mechanical properties and lightness than those of natural fiber and glass fiber. Nanocellulose was prepared by mechanical and chemical treatments from microcrystalline cellulose, and nanocellulose was well dispersed in polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor/DMF solution. The viscosity of composite solution was increased with increasing contents of nanocellulose. PAN based carbon fibers, embedded with nanocellulose in different concentrations were prepared by air gap spinning. Oxidative stabilization was performed by passing the fibers in air with tension and graphitic content of fiber (sp2 carbon) was increased after carbonization process above 1000 oC under nitrogen atmosphere. Carbonization of PAN based carbon fiber reinforced by nanocellulose were investigated. This research was supported by National Research Foundation of Korea. (Project No. 2010-0028182) |
