Imogolite is a natural, hydrated aluminium silicate with a hollow tube structure and their synthetic processes are reported. The atomic structure of imogolite is (OH)3Al2O3SiOH from the exterior to the interior of the imogolie tube. Inner elements could be substituted by carbon with tetraethyl orthocarbonate (TEOC) instead of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). Carbon substituted Imogolites were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. They were also investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to verify the morphology variation. We determined porous properties of carbon-imogolites using BET (Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller) methods with N2/77K adsorption isotherms. The specific surface area of the carbon-imogolites (C/C+Si=0.5) was xx m2/g and carbon-imogolites (C/C+Si=1) was xx m2/g. |
