A three-dimensional, mathematical model for two-phase flow dynamics in PEFCs has been developed based on the unsaturated flow theory(UFT) and the mist flow model. The model consists of three zones to account for water flow dynamics; (i) single-phase flow zone in the gas channel(GC), (ii) two-phase flow zone in the catalyst layer(CL) and the gas diffusion layer(GDL), (iii) electrolyte-phase flow zone in polymer electrolyte membrane(PEM). The mist flow model and the unsaturated flow theory(UFT) are applied to single-phase and two-phase flow zone, respectively. The simulation results are analyzed and validated against the experimental data of average polarization curve under 100 % humidified conditions. The comparison between simulation result and experiment data is matched well. |
