제목 Synthesis of Multiple Star Polystyrenes by Anionic Polymerization
초록 Branched block polymers have attracted much attention because of their unique topological architectures. Among branched polymers including comb- and dendritic-shaped polymers, star-linear-star polymers have been synthesized either by coupling star-linear diblock polymers with chlorosilane or by adding stars to chain-end-functionalized polymers. Although well-defined star-shaped polymers have been anionically synthesized mainly by using alkyl or metal halide linking agent, the number of arms attached to star polymer is limited by the number of halides of linking agent. On the other hand, the reaction of living polymers with divinylbenzene (DVB) provides star polymer with multiple arms. However, the linking reaction of divinylbenzene is often accompanied with insoluble gel polymer or incomplete linking of arm polymer.
In this report, star and multiple-star polystyrenes with minimized uncoupled arm polymer and no gel content were prepared by repeated addition of DVB to living polystyrenes. As well, the synthetic method successfully increased the number of arms linked to star polymer in a controllable way.
