Redox flow battery (RFB) technology has drawn much attention due to its massive energy storage capability. In the part of RFB system, membrane separates redox couples in negative and positive half-cells. In this study, cation exchange membrane was prepared using melt polycondensation. Two step polymerization was carried out for the synthesis of the block copolymer using dimethyl 5-sulfoisophthalate sodium salt(DMSIP), 1,6-hexandiol(HDO), isophthalic acid(IPA), and maleic anhydride(MA). After synthesizing the block copolymer, ion exchange membrane was prepared by UV curing using pentarythritol tetraacrylate(PETA) as a crosslinking agent. The structure of the block copolymer was characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and FT-IR. Thermal properties of the synthesized ionomer were investigated using TGA and DSC. And the basic properties of membranes were measured such as water uptake, ion exchange capacity, ion conductivity, electrical resistance. |
