Ligand Effect on the Cationic Nickel Complexes in Polymerization of Vinyl Ether |

Some structually well defined early transition-metal complexes have a Lewis acid to catalyze the polymerization of electron-rich monomers, but late transition-metal complexes are rarely investigated. A series of cationic nickel complexes containing α-diimine ligands which were recently developed as an olefin polymerization catalyst by Brookhart and coworks have been uesd as catalysts on the polymerization of vinyl ethers such as isobutyl vinyl ether and n-butyl ether. Here we disclose our investigation on the reactivity of a series of nickel complexes towards various vinyl ethers. The key feature of this study indicates how the steric efffect of ligands influences the reactivity of the nickel center in the polymerization of vinyl ethers. |
