The monomers for linear and hyperbranched polyetherketones(PEKs) were synthesized and polymerized to afford corresponding polymers. Thus, the monomers, 4-(2-phenoxyethoxy)benzoic acid (4-PEBA), 3-(2-phenoxyethoxy)benzoic acid (3-PEBA) and 3,5-bis(2-phenoxyethoxy) benzoic acid (3,5-PEBA), were prepared. The 4-PB was synthesized from the reaction between methyl 4-hydroxy benzoate and 1-(2-bromoethoxy)benzene to afford methyl 4-(2-phenoxyethoxy)benzoate, which was hydrolyzed to give final monomer. The others synthesized via the same reaction sequence for 4-PBEA. They are started with methly 3-hydroxybenzate and methyl 3,5-dihydroxybenzate to afford 3-PEBA and 3,5-PEBA, respectively. The polymerization condition was optimized in polyphosphoric acid with additional phosphorous phentoxide to give high molecular weight linear and hyperbranched polymers. On the basis of the optimized reaction, the monomers were treated with various carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to graft PEKs on the surface of CNTs. |
