Two types of TiO2 nanotubes which are conventional TiO2 nanotube(type1) and nanoporous layer-covered TiO2 nanotube were synthesized using electrochemical anodization process. Those samples were post-treated by varying the concentration of the TiCl4 aquous solution (5 to 50 mM) for the surface treatment. The two types of TiO2 nanotube cell performance was significantly affected by the different TiCl4 concentration. The 20 mM of the Type 1 and 5mM of the type 2 TiCl4-treated TiO2 nanotubes exhibited significantly enhanced efficiency of DSSC due to the increased surface area, which resulted in enhanced light-harvesting efficiency and greatly improved cell efficiency. However, as the TiCl4 concentration increased further to 50 mM, two types of the samples were reduced back, despite higher surface area. It can be attributed to the blocked voids caused by the formation of the TiO2 nanoparticles between the TiO2 nanotubes. |
