Thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) process and non-solvent induced phase separation(NIPS) process are useful methods for the preparation of polymeric membranes. In this study, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes were prepared from ternary system consist of polymer(PVDF), diluent(DBP) and solvent(NMP) via combination process of thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) with non-solvent induced phase separation(NIPS). The effect of composition ratio of solvent and diluent on polymer/solvent/diluent phase diagram was studied. The addition of 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) affected the morphology of membrane due to changing from thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) to non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS). In addition, the effects of the PVDF concentration on the membrane morphology were studied. It could be found that the composition ratio of DBP and NMP affected the morphology, mechanical property, and water flux of membrane. |
