Selective Syntheses of Sodium 5-O-Alkyl Isosorbide-2-O-Propyl Sulfonate Derived from Isosorbide |

Isosorbide is considered as an amphiphilic substances that biomass derivatives can replace petrochemical compounds. In this study, anionic surfactants with C6~C12 alkyl chains are synthesized selectivity and effectivity by chemicallyl linking alkyl chains to the hydrophilic head group. Sodium 5-O-alkyl isosorbide-2-O-propyl sulfonate(IPS-ENn) was studied with a highly selective method according to the appropriate reaction solvent and molar ratio. The minimum areas per molecule(Amin) of IPS-ENn were 1.21, 1.10, 1.02, and 0.81 nm2. Amin decreases with increasing the alkyl chain length at the surfactants. The synthesized surfactants have been tested to critical micelle concentration, foaming test and emulsion property. |
