The electrolyte in PEMFC (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell) is a membrane (fluorinated sulfonic acid polymer or other similar polymer) that is an excellent proton conductor. The perfluorinated ionomers have an outstanding chemical stability and excellent performance in fuel cell application. But their main shortcomings of these materials are their high price, toxic production process and methanol cross-over in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC). In this research, we synthesized polymer electrolyte membranes based on PEEK(poly ether ether ketone) and inorganic material composite and characterized their thermal, chemical, electrochemical properties by IEC, TGA, SEM, FRA etc. These composite membranes show 10-3 S/cm proton conductivity, 30-40% water uptake, low methanol permeability and 1.6 meq/g IEC (Ion Exchange Capacity). |
