Iodine-Free Redox Couplesin Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Using Stable Nitroxide Radicals |

Dye sensitized solar cells based on iodide/triiodide (I-/I3-) have achieved impressive conversion efficiencies over 11%. However, triiodide/iodide redox couples have several drawbacks. Thus, the alternative redox couples with stable nitroxide radical were adopted. Here, the electrochemical properties such as the redox reaction rates of A with NOBF4 as a doping agent were characterized. In particular, metallic TFSI and benzimidazole were added to the redox couple of A with NOBF4 to enhance the redox reaction rates, resulting in the energy conversion efficiency up to 4% at 1 sun conditions. It was thus suggested that A may be an attractive candidate for iodine-free redox couples. |
