Rheological properties are used to monitor the optimum condition of the curing process in the rubber compound. The viscosity is a rheological property that is most frequently used for its characterization and it depends on the flowing and polymer conditions(compound composition and additives etc.). This presents the studies on the morphological and rheological properties of organo-MMT/NBR nanocomposites, using the melt intercalation process. The produced nanocomposite(Organo-MMT/NBR) is analyzed by X-ray diffraction and TEM. As a result, the space between the layers of silicates is widened. It is already reported that the mechanical property of Organo-MMT/NBR nanocomposites increases compared to conventional composites. Also, the effect of the length of a modifier that treats Organo-MMT increases as the mechanical property increases as the order of C8-MMT ≪ C12-MMT ≪ C18-MMT. As the chain length of the modifier that treats Na+-MMT under the condition of vulcanization increases, scorch time and optimum-curing time are reduced. This is because as the chain length of the modifier increases, organo-MMT is distributed more equally during the production of nanocomposites. It is proven that in the swelling degree of the solvent the effect according to the distribution degree is shown apparently which means that as the chain length of the modifier grows it has a better barrier property. |
