Synthesis of Polyanhydride Copolymer and Its In Vitro Biodegradability. |

Poly(carboxyphenoxypropane : sebaic) anhydride copolymer was synthesized as biodegradable aliphatic-aromatic polyanhydride by melt-polycondensation. SA prepolymer and CPP prepolymer were prepared by reacting SA and CPP with excess acetic anhydride. Molecular weight, thermal property. and crystallinity of poly(CPP:SA) were characterized by GPC, DSC, and XRD respectively. Polymers of higher molecular weights were synthesized with increase of polymerization temperature and time but, above the optimized condition , the molecular weights were decresed due to formation of cyclic macremers. Composition of copolymers identified by 1H-NMR analysis were well matched to prepolymer feed ratio. Crystallinity of copolymers decreased with increase of CPP fraction in copolymer composition. In vitro biodegradability of poly(CPP:SA) impregnated in PBS, 37℃ was evaluated by determining molecular weight change, mass loss, and release of monomers during degradation test period.
