Amphiphilic Star Block Copolymers with Photosensitive Core by Living Radical Polymerization |

Amphiphilic star block copolymers were synthesized by copper based living radical polymerization, where the star block copolymers consisted of hydrophilic block exteriors, hydrophobic block interiors, and photosensitive catalyst cores. The photosensitive star block copolymer, especially with poly(PEGMA) exterior block segment improved the photo oxidation catalytic reaction with hydrophobic substrate in hydrophilic medium in comparison to corresponding small molecule photosensitizer. This effect is probably due to efficient concentration of the hydrophobic substrate into the hydrophobic star polymer core, where the photosensitive catalyst located in the core. Thus, the hydrophobic core of the star block copolymer served nano sized reaction space for efficient catalytic reaction. |
