Engineering Biomaterials to Modulate Cell/Tissue Function |
초록 |
Cells are embedded within complex microenvironment consisting of extracellular matrix (ECM), growth factors, and cytokines. Cell adhesion to ECM triggers a cascade of intercellular signaling events that lead to changes in important cellular behaviors. The current strategy for developing engineered tissue involves combining cells with scaffolds that provide the initial framework for cells to assemble into tissue. Therefore, the ability to modulate cellular interactions with their microenvironment is critical to regenerate biologically functional tissue. Conventional tools in material engineering and cell/molecular biology are now being adopted to creating novel structure that provides spatially and structurally defined biological signals to cells and directs desirable cellular responses. This presentation will highlight some of recent advances in understanding of how miroenvironmental cues, presented from engineered biomaterials, can affect cellular phenotype and function. |
