PET/HT nanocomposites were synthesized and characterized by XRD, DSC, TGA, intrinsic viscosity, FTIR, H1-NMR and UV-Visible spectral methods. The intercalation of SBA onto HT was confirmed through observing the bands between 1000-1200 and 650 cm-1 in FTIR spectroscopy. The polymer/ nanocomposites were prepared by in-situ polymerization method. The XRD results inferred that the basal spacing of HT was increased with intercalation and in-situ polymerization. The % crystallinity was calculated from DSC results and indicated that the % crystallinity increased with the increase of unmodified HT and remained constant with modified HT at 10° C/min. The TGA analysis exhibited increase in thermal stability for polymer/nanocomposites than the original PET, homopolymer. Lower intrinsic viscosity was observed for the polymer/nanocomposites than the homopolymer. The structure of polymer/ nanocom-posites were further confirmed by recording H1-NMR and UV-Visible spectroscopy. |
