The sorption behaviors of I- and CrO42- on calcined layered double hydroxide were investigated. The batch sorption experiments were carried out in an inert atmosphere. Sorption is based on stepwise ion-exchange equilibria involving the LDH hydroxide. The determined equilibrium constants of K1 and K2 are 7.4 and 0.2, respectively. The dominant reaction is the first ion-exchange equilibrium, which is the replacement of one OH- ion of LDH hydroxide by an I- ion to form LDH(OH)(I)(s). In the case of CrO42- sorption, CrO42- ion is sorbed instead of two exchangable OH- ions of LDH hydroxide. The equilibrium constant of KCr is also evaluated. |
