제목 | pH dependent characteristics of poly(ethylene-alt-maleic anhydride)/poly(4-vinyl pyridine) multilayers formed by layer-by-layer sequential self-assembly. |
초록 | The fabrication of polyelectrolyte mulatilayer thin films by layer-by-layer (LbL) sequential adsorption on solid substrate has proven to be an experimentally simple and versatile method to produce nanoscopically structured materials. Most of the work have focused on the use of strong polyelectrolytes in their fully charged state. More recently, it was reported that hydrogen-bonding interactions also constitute an alternative driving force for fabricating multilayer films of weak polyelectrolytes. The assembly of multilayer films from weak polyelectrolytes have attracted considerable interest because of their pH dependent characteristics. Recently, we have reported on the formation of multilayer films comprising weak polyelectrolytes, poly(ethylene-alt-maleic anhydride) (PEMAh) and poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) via the LbL assembly technique. In this study, we fabricated self-assembled multicomponent multilayered films consists of PEMAh/Rhodamine 6G (R6G) layers sandwiched between PEMAh/P4VP multilayer stacks, schematically shown in Fig.1 (A). We investigated the pH dependent R6G dye molecule release behavior of the above mentioned multicomponent multilayered films. UV-visible spectroscopy was used to trace the R6G dye molecule release behavior.(Fig.1 (B)) Fig.1. (A) Schematic illustration of the multilayer films composed of physically confined R6G layers sandwiched between PEMAh/P4VP stacks. (B) UV-vis spectra of (PEMAh/P4VP)5/(PEMAh/Rhodamin6G)4/(PEMAh/P4VP)3 films after exposure to pH 6 solution recorded as a function of time. |
