In order to impart a recognition selectivity to nanomaterials for the detection of target molecules, it is required to functionalize their interface with synthetic or biological molecules. In this talk, several unique approaches for designing optical biosensors based on graphene oxide (GO), which is an emerging fluorescent nanosheet showing tunable and strong photoluminescence (PL), for the selective detection of enzymes, neurotransmitters or proteases will be presented. The interfacial functionalization of GO with a synthetic polymer or peptides leads to its selective fluorescence response to specific targets. In addition, the mechanism responsible for the selective recognition of the target biomolecules will be discussed. |
