Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) are thought to have much potential to produce the novel applications which include flexible display. Naphthalene 1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic diimide (NTCDI) derivatives are promising candidates for active layers in n-type OTFTs. In this present study, we have synthesized and characterized new three NTCDI derivatives connected with benzene (NTCDI-B), 4-trifluoromethly benzene (NTCDI-MF), and 3,5-bis-trifluoromethyl benzene (NTCDI-PF) group at the peripheral position. It was found that the CF3 moiety has influenced the NTCDI orbital energies and also the nearest neighbor interactions in the solid state. We fabricated OTFT device on SiO2 deposited at various substrate temperatures ranging from 50 to 130 oC through thermal vacuum evaporation. The morphology and molecular orientation of organic layer have been investigated by atomic force microscope (AFM) and X-ray diffraction. The AFM images for the fiber-like grains were observed in the NTCDI-MF and PF. |
